Matthew Scott, General Manager/Chief Programme Officer
Matthew became General Manager of DANTE in January 2010, after joining the company as Commercial Manager in 1996 before becoming Chief Financial Officer in 2003. He was involved in the procurements for the last three pan European networks that DANTE has implemented, and has extensive knowledge of the international telecoms carrier market.
He is qualified as a Chartered Accountant and has an Engineering degree from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne.
Niels Hersoug, General Manager/Chief Programme Officer
Niels Hersoug joined DANTE as General Manager in 2011. A Certified Project Manager and Master of Science and Business Administration, Niels is highly experienced in management and technology.
Prior to DANTE, Niels worked in a number of senior management roles in a range of technology driven companies.
David Wrathmall, Chief Financial Officer
David Wrathmall joined DANTE in 2013 to take responsibility for the financial management of the company. David is a Chartered Management Accountant and has previously held positions up to CFO, FD and Board level, in financial services, media, e-commerce, technology and telecommunications sectors within start-up, SME and corporate organisations primarily operating in Europe and the emerging markets.
Michael Enrico, Chief Technical Officer
Michael became DANTE's Chief Technical Officer in 2012, after joining DANTE as senior network engineer in 2002.
His telecomm career started when he joined (what is now) BTexact Technologies in 1997, working on the study and development of innovative broadband access network architectures before moving to BT's wholesale broadband platform. In 2000 he joined a telecommunications startup as a network architect to design a novel platform to support wholesale secure broadband access and VPN services with a pan-European footprint.
Michael has a BSc and PhD in Physics from Lancaster University; his PhD work involved experimental studies on superfluid helium at ultralow temperatures.
Mark Johnston, Chief Network Operations Officer
Mark became Chief Network Operations Officer in 2013 and has responsibility for the delivery and operation of the GÉANT network and its services. He was previously leading the 500Gbps GÉANT Network Migration Project, having joined DANTE in 2012. Mark has over 20 years of telecommunications experience in managing operational teams to design, plan, build and operate network infrastructure and network-centric services; and in driving continual improvements of operational processes and workflows.
Mark has an Electrical and Electronic engineering undergraduate degree and a Masters in Business Administration.
Cathrin Stöver, Chief International Relations and Communications Officer
Cathrin joined DANTE in October 1997 as External Relations Manager, and became Project Manager of the ALICE project in 2002 and under her management, ALICE led to the creation of the Latin American RedCLARA network and the CLARA organisation. She has since steered the company's international networking projects and became Chief International Relations and Communications Officer in 2012.
Cathrin has a degree in European Business Studies and has studied and worked in Germany, France, the UK and US; she is based in Madrid, Spain.
John Chevers, Chief Business Development Officer
John became Chief Business Development Officer in 2012. He joined DANTE in 2004 as Project Manager for user support, responsible for enabling large international collaborations and liaising with the NREN community to find coherent pan-European networking solutions.
He has a BSc in Physics and an MSc in Optoelectronics at the University of London. His PhD from the University of Strathclyde used Time-Resolved Fluorescence Spectroscopy to study Sol-Gel Glasses. Subsequently he worked as a Scientist and Project Coordinator at Marconi Optical Components and Bookham Technology.
Anand Patil, Chief Information Officer
Anand joined DANTE in 2002 in the Network Planning and Engineering group, following an internship with the company as part of his MSc in Distributed Systems and Networks from the University of Kent. He was appointed to the Chief Software Development Officer role in 2012.
Anand has a bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering from India in 1994 and started his career as a software engineer with Infosys in Bangalore before joining NCS, a Singapore Telecom subsidiary, as senior consultant. He has also worked as a Systems Architect in bespoke application development in a wide range of business sectors and technologies.
Dale Robertson, Head of EC Liaison
Dale was appointed as Head of EC Liaison in March 2012, having joined DANTE as PR Manager in May 2002 to build the company’s PR team and to manage marketing communications for the GÉANT and regional network projects. She lived in Brussels for six years, working inside the European Commission and European Parliament, in External Relations with Sony Europe and as European Affairs Manager with the BBC. Prior to joining DANTE, Dale worked as an IT systems implementation consultant.
She has a Mathematics degree from the University of Cambridge and a Postgraduate Diploma in International Studies from Johns Hopkins University (SAIS) and spent time as a mathematical researcher in France.
Toby Young, Head of Product Management
Toby joined DANTE’s commercial team in 2011 before being appointed Head of Product Management in 2012. A senior figure within the Telecoms Industry, Toby brings to DANTE over 25 years’ experience of Product Marketing, Business Development / Analysis, Telecoms Strategy and Architecture, and Procurement. He has led teams of marketers, consultants and engineers undertaking strategic projects within some of the world’s blue chip Service Providers and top 100 enterprises including AVIVA, R&SA, RBS, Network Rail, Samsonite and Ford.
Toby holds a degree in Physics and Computing, and is an member of the Institute of Marketing.
Tryfon Chiotis, Head of GÉANT Project Office
Tryfon Chiotis joined DANTE in September 2013 as head of the Project Office, responsible for the day-to-day management and administration of the GÉANT project.
Having worked as Chief Technical Officer at GRNET, the Greek National Research and Education Network, since 1999, he has a long-standing track record in securing and managing EC-Funded projects and with working with GÉANT stakeholders.
Tryfon has also served as a board member of the Greek Chapter of the Project Management Institute (PMI), a member of the Future Internet Forum (FIF) and as a board member for the Infosoc SA, where he spent considerable time with public administration networking. He has been a member of the NREN - Policy Committee of GEANT, as well as a member the TERENA General Assembly and the e-IRG (e-Infrastructure Reflection Group).
